Today the Accredited Standards Committee X9 Inc. (X9) announced the publication of a new report, “Post Quantum Cryptography Financial Readiness Needs Assessment.” The goal of this document is to provide a high-level view, targeted to managers and executives, of options, alternatives and guidance on how to mitigate the cybersecurity threats posed to the financial services industry by quantum computers. The new report was developed by the X9F Quantum Computing Risk Study Group, one of the two X9 groups working on quantum computing issues. It is available for download at no charge.

X9 Launches Open PKI Forum to Guide New Financial Industry PKI Products
The Accredited Standards Committee X9 Inc. (X9) today announced that it has established an open, international PKI (public key infrastructure) Industry Forum for all interested parties. This follows the execution of an agreement with DigiCert, a global provider of digital trust, for that company to produce, market and sell X9 PKI solutions to the financial industry. X9 will control the policies that define these solutions, and the new group will serve as a channel for stakeholder engagement.
X9 Publishes Standard for QR Code Protection Using Cryptography
The Accredited Standards Committee X9 Inc. (X9) today announced that it has released a standard for QR Code Protection Using Cryptographic Solutions, X9.148. The new standard guides the financial services industry in deploying cryptography to create trusted, secure QR codes, including definitions and descriptions for the secure usage of QR codes in financial applications. It is now available from ANSI for download.

New Version of X9.58 Standard Upgrades USDA SNAP EBT Cards To Include Chip-on-Card Technology, Significantly Decreasing Opportunity for Fraud
The Accredited Standards Committee X9 Inc. (X9) today announced a new version of its X9.58 standard, which covers financial transaction messages associated with Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) for the United States Department of Agriculture's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, colloquially known as food stamps) and cash benefit programs. X9 Launches Effort to Create Payment QR Code Standard
The Accredited Standards Committee X9 Inc. (X9) today announced that it will develop a new QR code payments standard. The new standard will establish the content of a QR code for payments, emphasizing interoperability, in order to process a payment digitally, and will include both merchant-presented and customer-presented QR Codes. Encoded in a payment QR code will be all the information necessary to execute a payment without the customer or merchant having to share financial account details. Work will begin in August, and participants are sought.
X9 Seeks Participants To Standardize Single-use Virtual Purchase Cards
The Accredited Standards Committee X9 Inc. (X9) today announced an initiative to standardize both the creation and efficient acceptance of virtual, single-use purchase card accounts (SUA), in order to reduce overhead costs and challenges faced by suppliers. SUAs are used by businesses as an alternative to checks or electronic funds transfers for paying outstanding supplier invoices.
ASC X9 Issues New Data Protection and Breach Notification Standard
The Accredited Standards Committee X9 Inc. (X9) has published a new standard, "Financial and Personal Data Protection and Breach Notification." X9.141 is a two-part document addressing both the "before" data protection and the "after" breach notification. The Accredited Standards Committee X9 Inc. (X9) is creating a new public forum to address issues related to disparate financial data terms, in order to effect greater financial market efficiency. The X9 Industry Forum on Financial Terms Harmonization will review and harmonize current industry-wide differences in financial data terms, meanings and definitions, with the eventual goal of creating a Data Dictionary/Data Glossary that is used by all. Interested parties are invited to participate in its development.
